Each year we invite every Boone & Crockett whitetail that has been entered in our Big Buck Contest to be part of the legendary Iowa Whitetail Hall of Fame.  This creates an overwhelming wall of over 100 Boone & Crockett caliber trophies... an amazing tribute to Iowa's quality whitetails, located in Hall A - Hy-Vee Hall.

Monster Shed Antler Contest --Hundreds of monster sheds from all across whitetail country will be on display for the weekend in this great contest sponsored by the North American Shed Hunters Club! Whitetail sheds can be brought in and entered into our contest for awards and prizes creating a spectacular display showcasing the great finds of shed hunters a fitting display for a pastime which is so quickly growing in popularity. The Shed Antler Display has expanded to occupy over 100 feet of shed antlers! The shed contest will be held in Hall A - Hy-Vee Hall.

The World’s Greatest Whitetails, presented by Antlers By Klaus, will make a three-day appearance as the featured attraction at the 2014 Iowa Deer Classic in Des Moines, Iowa on Feb 28 - March 2.  Their amazing and ever-changing display includes record-breaking trophies, many in life-sized full-body presentation – including FOCUS ON IOWA BUCKS.  Other miracles of nature will include the legendary Ghost Buck (the world record albino from Wisconsin), the new archery world record Real Langlois Moose, and a premiere collection of record breaking sheds!

 

Antlers By Klaus is the worlds’ most prestigious antler replicator with over 400 in its collection representing most of the world, state and provincial records.  Klaus Lebrecht, owner of Antlers By Klaus, said today,  “Our unique display is truly one-of-a-kind.  Most of the original deer represented in this replica collection remain in private ownership and are not available for public viewing -- anywhere.  We are honored to bring them together to present to the hunters across North America.”

SATURDAY- NASP State Archery Championships! -- The championships will be held in the new Community Choice Credit Union Grand Ballroom of the Iowa Events Center. The Iowa Deer Classic and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources are proud to present the National Archery in the Schools Iowa State Championships. Students from schools across the great state of Iowa will compete for both individual and team awards presented in High School (9-12), Middle School (7-8) and Elementary School (K-6) Divisions.  The first place team and individuals in each division qualify for the NASP National Championship. The top boy and top girl senior archers will also each receive a $1,000 scholarship prize! Sign up to shoot the Legendary Classic 300 Tournament! -- The Mid-Iowa Archers and the Iowa Deer Classic are excited to bring you this 3-day Vegas-Style 300 Round Tournament to be held in Hall A - Hy-Vee Hall of the Iowa Events Center.  

All proceeds will benefit the Mid Iowa Archers.

Amateur Tournament Entry Fee is only $10, and cubs (kids age 8-11) are only $5.  Professional shooter Entry Fee is $50 with an 80% payback!

 Trophies awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in 12 Divisions!

Shoot the Team Bowmasters 3D Pop-Up Shoot! -- Bowmasters 3D Pop-Up Challenge is a simulated bowhunting environment for archers of all proficiency levels. The experience educates the shooter while testing their bowhunting skills and equipment. Pop up and Walk-Out 3-D Target Stations, plus stationary Decoy Targets, keep the hunter thinking -- never knowing which target is coming next, or what the distance will be.  It's fast, fun, educational, and the experience will test any bowhunters skills.

KIDS ACTIVITIES

 

Archery Shooting --All Three Days, The Iowa Bowhunters Association, Iowa State Archery Association, and National Archery in the Schools Program will offer free youth archery lessons and free shooting.  Members will help instruct young archers how to shoot a bow & arrow. All equipment will be provided.  Located in Hall A.

 

RAISED HUNTING--Booth #43 will feature a shoot commonly known as a  "water shoot". Kids 10 and older may participate for $1.00. Two competitors will be shooting at bags of sand suspended from a swing arm. First to empty their bag wins. Genesis bows provided. Prizes for all and a raffle for a HAWK treestand.

Saturday Only -- Bluebird House Building.The first 100 youths will be able to build a cedar bluebird house. Sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Federation of Iowa, instructors, tools, and bird house kits will be provided. There will be a fee of $10.00 per family. 

This includes a bird house for each family member.  A one year Jake membership in the National Wild Turkey Federation with a patch, decal, magazine subscription, and a chance in   a drawing for a youth model BB gun.  Birdhouse building will take place on the east side of the lobby across from the main entrance.

BB Gun Shoot - All Three Days, youth 17 and under can come test their skills in the National Wild Turkey Federation's "Take Aim" BB gun shooting booth.  Come learn about how much fun the shooting sports can be.  Volunteers will assist youth in their introduction to safe BB gun handling.  This safe and enjoyable environment is designed to build individual confidence while promoting the shooting sports. 

BB guns and safety equipment are provided.

Friday-Saturday and Sunday -- Bear Cubs and Baby Wolf

Buy a picture of you or your kids with live baby bear cubs or a baby wolf.

Iowa's Biggest Big Buck Contest

The biggest bucks taken in the last couple years will be on display for your eyes only.  This is the contest all Iowa Hunters are striving to win, with over 400 entrants in 2012! Many different categories to compete in including Firearm, Bow, Muzzleloader, Historical, Youth, Crossbow and Ladies categories, all broken into Typical and Non-Typical divisions! If you took a trophy whitetail in the past two years, we certainly encourage you to enter! There is a historical division for bucks taken before Fall 2012 season. Your $20 Big Buck Contest entry fee includes official Boone & Crockett or Pope & Young measuring of your trophy and a chance to win a Hoyt bow! The contest and display will be in Hall A - Hy-Vee Hall.

               DO YOU HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT DEER IN IOWA?- The Iowa DNR conducts listening sessions around the state to receive input from the public about hunting seasons and management. There will be two opportunites to voice your concerns and hear what others are thinking.                  .

These sessions will include a panel of leaders of the DNR and others that have input on the management of deer, to get input from you about the future of deer management in Iowa.
